The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is the UK's leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. We have been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884.
The work of the NSPCC to end cruelty to children includes:
  • 180 community-based teams and projects throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • A free, 24-hour Child Protection Helpline that provides information, advice and counselling to anyone concerned about a child's safety. They also run a bilingual Welsh helpline, an Asian helpline in five Asian languages, and a textphone service for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Public education campaigns, to increase understanding about child abuse and provide advice and support on positive parenting.
  • Parliamentary campaigning to persuade government, Parliament and opinion-formers to put children's issues at the top of the political agenda.
  • Child protection training and advice for organisations involved in the care, protection and education of children. For example, local and health authorities, sports bodies and young people's groups.
  • Research into the nature and effects of child abuse.
  • Information resources on child protection and related topics for professionals, the press and the general public.
  • Fundraising through individual and corporate supporters, which provides 85% of the money needed to pay for our work to end cruelty to children.

The NSPCC's Pledge ...
Excerpt taken from the NSPCC website

The NSPCC’s mission is to end cruelty to children. FULL STOP. Since the launch of the FULL STOP Campaign we’ve introduced many new services to help protect children in every area of their lives. More are planned for the future as funds become available. But child protection services can only take us halfway to our goal ...

To end cruelty to children for ever, we need the active commitment of everyone, in every sector of our society.

More than 650,000 people have already pledged their support for the FULL STOP Campaign. But we need a million pledges to present to government, to show how strongly the people of Britain want a better future for all our children.

Together we can help end cruelty to children – please join us by signing the NSPCC Pledge.
