Save the Children fights for children in the UK and around the world who suffer from poverty, disease, injustice and violence. We work with them to find lifelong answers to the problems they face.

Taken from their website;
In 2003/04 we achieved:

free healthcare
After lobbying by Save the Children and other organisations, internally displaced children and adults in Liberia are now entitled to free healthcare.

reduced medical costs
Major donors such as the EU changed their policy of charging patients the full cost of medicines in Burundi after Save the Children research showed it would stop many people getting basic healthcare.

funding for children orphaned by AIDS
Lobbying by the International Save the Children Alliance and others means that ten per cent of the $15 billion that President Bush has pledged over five years to combat AIDS will be spent on orphans and other vulnerable children.

pre-school education
A pre-school curriculum that Save the Children developed and piloted with a local authority in Vietnam has had a major influence on national education policy.

And much more ...

Taken from their website about what they do:

What do we do? Save the Children works in the UK and across the world. Emergency relief runs alongside long-term development and prevention work to help children, their families and communities to be self-sufficient. We learn from the reality of children's lives and campaign for solutions to the problems they face. We gain expertise through our projects around the world and use that knowledge to educate and advise others.

Why do children matter? All our work is underpinned by our commitment to making a reality of the rights of children, first spelled out by our founders and now enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. All children deserve the best start in life - children have the right to live in a world where they have hope and opportunity. Children need special care and assistance, without which they cannot fully develop their potential.

Governance and structure If you would like to know how Save the Children UK is structured and governed please download the document below which gives an overview of our staff structures and accountability mechanisms.
