IMHO, mIRC is the best client-side piece of software for chatting. mIRC can be a little daunting at first, but once you read the manual and I mean, rtfm, it is very easy to use. I would estimate in the all the chat rooms I've been in at least a good 60% of the users use mIRC. Java chatting is fine, but if you want something a little more up-class then download mIRC today!
